ROCKVILLE, Md -- September 4, 2008 -- The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is notifying healthcare professionals that histoplasmosis and other invasive fungal infections are not consistently recognised in patients taking tumor necrosis factor-alpha blockers (TNF blockers), certolizumab pegol (Cimzia), etanercept (Enbrel), adalimumab (Humira), and infliximab (Remicade). This has resulted in delays in appropriate treatment, sometimes resulting in death.
