DUBLIN, IRELAND and MEQUON, WI -- Nov. 30, 1998 – The United States Food and Drug Administration has approved Schwarz Pharma, Inc.'s Verelan(R) (verapamil HCl) PM, a chronotherapeutic form of verapamil hydrochloride, for the management of essential hypertension. Verelan PM, a calcium channel blocker, is designed for bedtime dosing and incorporates a four to five hour delay in drug delivery. The controlled onset delivery system results in a maximum plasma concentration of verapamil in the morning hours. The most frequently reported side effects of verapamil are constipation, headache and dizziness, which can be easily managed in most patients.
