FORT WASHINGTON, PA -- July 8, 1998 -- McNeil Consumer Products Co. is introducing new packaging in the United States for its Tylenol(R) (acetaminophen) and Motrin(R) IB (ibuprofen) brands.

As part of the label modifications both Tylenol and Motrin IB labels will contain organ-specific language about alcohol consumption and the use of all OTC pain relievers, as recently proposed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

McNeil is adding the following warning to its complete line of adult MOTRIN IB products:

"If you drink three or more alcoholic beverages daily, ask your doctor whether you should take Motrin(R) IB or other pain relievers. Motrin(R) IB may increase your risk of stomach bleeding."

The alcohol warning on adult TYLENOL products has been modified to read as follows:

"If you drink three or more alcoholic beverages every day, ask your doctor if you should take Tylenol(R) or other pain relievers. Chronic heavy alcohol users may be at increased risk of liver damage when taking more than the recommended dose (overdose) of Tylenol(R)."

The new packaging, which consumers will start to see on store shelves in late July, incorporates redesigned front panel graphics to make it easier for consumers to select appropriate dosage forms. The back panel on Tylenol has been simplified with the use of larger print, helpful icons and an easier-to-read format.
