HAWTHORNE, NY -- April 17, 2000 -- Taro Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. announced that its U.S. subsidiary, Taro Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc., received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") for its New Drug Application ("NDA") for over-the-counter Clotrimazole Three-Day Cream, 2% used in the treatment of vaginal yeast infections. Taro will utilize its position as a leading supplier of store-brand over-the-counter topical products to sell the cream under private label to customers. Taro is the first company to offer a private label cream in the three-day vaginal yeast infection market segment. The product has the same indications as Johnson & Johnson's Monistat(R)-3 Cream, Schering Plough's Gyne-Lotrimin(R)-3 Cream and Bayer's Mycelex(R)-3 Cream. According to industry sources, the total U.S. market in 1999 for over-the-counter vaginal antifungal treatments was $280 million for 1999. Of that, the 1999 U.S. market for three-day vaginal yeast infection treatments was $124 million. Vaginal Creams accounted for 71 percent of all 1999 vaginal antifungal treatment sales.
