FORT WASHINGTON, PA -- October 18, 2000 -- The makers of Tylenol® announced the national introduction of Women's Tylenol® Menstrual Relief, their first product developed exclusively for women. "For nearly 40 years, American women have relied on Tylenol for comfort and care, so it's only fitting that we now have a product devoted exclusively to the relief of menstrual pain and bloating -- a health problem that affects nearly 52 million women every month," said Mary Ellen Mortensen, M.D., executive director of medical affairs, McNeil Consumer Healthcare. Tylenol is the first and only major over-the-counter (OTC) analgesic to introduce a product specially formulated for menstrual discomfort. Women's Tylenol Menstrual Relief combines the proven safe and effective pain relief of Tylenol with pamabrom, a diuretic to ease water retention. "It is very encouraging to see a major over-the-counter pain reliever take the initiative to develop a product that speaks directly to the unique health needs of women," said Jill Baron, M.D., a women's health advocate and clinical instructor, Department of Family Medicine at SUNY, Stony Brook, New York. "Women are no longer content with the 'one size fits all' approach to medical treatment and are actively seeking and demanding customized care." Women's Tylenol Menstrual Relief comes in caplet form. The recommended dose is 2 caplets every four to six hours, not to exceed eight caplets in 24 hours, for women and girls over the age of 12. Each caplet contains 500 mg of acetaminophen and 25mg of pamabrom. As with any medication, women should read the Women's Tylenol Menstrual Relief label carefully and use the product as directed.
