IRVINE, CA -- October 16, 2001 -- Allergan today announced it has received approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market Tazorac® Cream (tazarotene cream 0.1%) for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. Tazorac Cream is a topical, receptor-selective retinoid specifically designed to deliver effective retinoid action in both psoriasis and acne. Since 1997, Tazorac Gel (0.05% and 0.1%) has been FDA-approved for the treatment of stable plaque psoriasis and Tazorac Gel 0.1% has also been indicated for mild-to-moderately severe facial acne vulgaris. Tazorac Cream (0.05% and 0.1%) was approved by the FDA for the treatment of plaque psoriasis during the third quarter of 2000.
"This approval provides physicians an effective new prescription alternative for treating a broader range of patients with varied skin types," said F. "In addition, the acne indication for Tazorac Cream is an integral part of our strategy to further expand Allergan's skin care pharmaceutical business."
