PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 21, 1996 -- With milder summer temperatures and frequent rainfall, a hearty ragweed crop is expected, according to Dr. Donald Dvorin of The Asthma Center. Ragweed pollen counts are usually at their peek early in September due to the position of the sun. However, this year, ragweed pollen counts were present in early August, according to Dvorin, who analyzes and reports pollen and mold counts from metropolitan Philadelphia for the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology. Dvorin adds that ragweed sufferers can decrease symptoms by avoiding the outdoors during peak pollen hours -- 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. To help allergy sufferers plan outdoor activities, The Asthma Center provides a free hotline (1-800-4-POLLEN), Monday through Friday, throughout the ragweed allergy season. Callers can hear the latest ragweed pollen counts for the Delaware Valley as well as an allergy and asthma advisory.
