 1.    How do I access full-text articles?
To help you keep up-to-date, medical news & literature are sourced for you from over 2000 peer-reviewed journals, then organised and presented according to how you personalise your page. Personal Edition then provides links to the abstracts and original articles where available. While some journals allow free access to the complete article, many still require registration and some require subscription.

 2.    What is my Username and Password?
Doctor's Guide offers you an unique and innovative way to effortlessly access the wealth of relevant medical information on the Internet. Usernames and passwords are not required to access your Doctor's Guide Personal Edition. Instead, we have created a personal address (URL) for you that is to be entered in the Location/Address box of your Internet Browser.

Personal Edition provides links to abstracts and articles from online versions of peer-reviewed journals; some journals require registration (with a username and password) to further access their site. When accessing these articles, please note that you are exiting Doctor's Guide Personal Edition and are entering the website for the medical journal in question. Instructions are usually very clear as to what steps are needed to register with journals requiring registration. Please
contact the Webmaster if you have forgotten or lost your Personal Edition address/URL.

PERSONALISATION FEATURES:


 1.    How do I personalise my Favourite Journals?
Doctor's Guide allows you to gain quick access to your favourite journals with only a few easy steps.

  1. Click Favourite Journals, located on the left side of your Doctor's Guide Personal Edition page below the Explore section.

  2. Click on a specialty.

  3. Click on a specific journal(s).

  4. Click "Add" to add as many journals as you would like on your page.

  5. Repeat steps 1 to 3 for every specialty and journal.

  6. Click "Submit".

  7. The page will reload with your favourite journals listed on your Personal Edition Page.

 2.    How do I personalise my Channel Watch?
Personalising your Favourite Channels will allow you to keep track of information relevant to you. A Channel provides all the news, including reviews of peer-reviewed articles and same-day congress dispatches, webcasts/CME and cases related to a specific medical condition. All news and developments relevant to that condition will appear, colour-coded and indexed for quick and easy identification.

Channels may be added to your Personal Edition page in 2 ways:

  1. Click the icon in the Channel Watch Bar on your page.
    Select the Channels of interest to you (up to 15 Channels can be listed at one time).
    Scroll down and click "Submit".
    The Channel(s) will automatically appear, updated daily, each time you access your page.
    OR

  2. Select "Add to your Channel Watch" by clicking on the drop-down menu in the Channel Watch Bar on your page.
    Highlight the Channel of interest to you.
    The page will reload with your selection listed in your Channel watch.
    Repeat this process for every Channel you would like listed.

Channels may be removed in 2 ways:

  1. Click the icon in the Channel Watch Bar on your page.
    Remove the check mark from the Channels that are no longer of interest to you.
    Scroll down and click "Submit".
    The Channels will automatically be removed from your page.

    OR

  2. Simply click the "X" located in the right-hand corner of the Channel you wish to remove.
    The page will reload immediately with your revised selection.

 3.    How do I notify Doctor's Guide of my new e-mail address?
You can change the information in your personal profile at any time. Making these changes is a very easy process.
  1. Click (Personalise) in the very top right hand corner of the Personal Edition Page.
  2. Click Your Name and E-mail.
  3. Enter your new e-mail address.
  4. Click "Submit".

HOW TO SEARCH EFFECTIVELY:


  1.    How do I search for a specific topic?
      At the top, left hand corner of your Personal Edition Page type in a keyword in the "Search" box:

    1. Select "Doctor's Guide" to search within Doctor's Guide's database.

      OR

    2. Select "Medline", which links to PubMed, a medical database.

      OR

    3. Select "The Web", using your favourite search engine.

      OR

    4. Once your selection is made and your search entered, click "Go" to get your search results.

  2.    How do I search for a medical resource ( support groups, clinical trials, etc. )?
    This Internet resource database enables you to link to a directory of the best medical and health-related sites that our medical journalists have reviewed for quality and relevance. Simply click
    All Medical Resources in the Explore Section on the left-hand side of the page, and select the categories of interest to you.

  1.    How do I access my Personal Edition?
    Personal Edition offers you the unique opportunity to effortlessly access and arrange the wealth of medical information on the Internet in a way that best suits you. Type your Personal Edition address (URL) into the corresponding Address or Location box of your Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Web browser and press ENTER. Please
    contact the Doctor's Guide Webmaster if you have forgotten or lost your URL.

  2.    What do I do if I cannot access my Personal Edition with my URL?
    If you have typed your name or number incorrectly or omitted a period, or slash then the URL is invalid. For your convenience, we suggest you Bookmark/Add to Favorites your Personal Edition address/URL by pressing CTRL + D when you are visiting your Personal Edition page. Please
    contact the Webmaster if you have forgotten your address/URL.

  3.    How do I access pages on my Personal Edition if I'm having difficulties?
    Doctor's Guide regularly monitors the speed and quality of our site. However, you may be experiencing difficulties accessing your page for a variety of reasons, including problems with your Internet Service Provider or your Operating System. Please contact your computer's manufacturer or ISP for further information. If the problem with your page persists, please
    contact the Doctor's Guide Webmaster.

  4.    How do I access Webcasts/CME?
    You may access Webcasts/CME on your Personal Edition Page in several ways.

    1. You can view Webcasts/CME by Channel by simply selecting "All Webcasts/CME" in the Explore section of your page.

    2. The purple icon represents "Webcasts/CME" and can be found throughout your Personal Edition page.


    What are Webcasts/CME?: Webcasts/CME are online medical events (live and archived) from credible institutions including universities, teaching hospitals, clinics, medical portals and other accredited sources. Doctor's Guide journalists write a summary of each webcast/CME, providing all relevant information including accreditation and registration as well as a link titled "Go to webcast/CME" from the summary page.

  5.    How do I access Cases?
    You can easily access Cases on your Personal Edition page.

    1. You can view all cases by Channel by selecting "All Cases" in the Explore section of your page.

    2. The green icon represents cases and can be found throughout your Personal Edition page.

    What are Cases?: Cases originate from sites created by hospitals, university medical centres, medical associations, teaching hospitals and other accredited sources. Our editorial team selects medical case studies on a daily basis, and then writes a concise review, highlights salient information and provides a direct link to the case. All cases are verified for accreditation and relevance to our readers.

We have made it very simple for you to share Personal Edition with your colleagues.
  1. Click Register a Colleague located on the main tool bar, at the top of your page, below your name.
  2. Complete the form.
  3. Click "Submit".
  4. Doctor's Guide will send your colleague his/her own Personal Edition by e-mail.

 2.    May I obtain medical advice from Doctor's Guide?
Doctor's Guide is your one comprehensive source for peer-reviewed literature, case studies, webcasts/CME and more. We have an extensive staff of medical journalists, however any questions regarding a medical diagnosis, treatment, referral, drug availability or pricing should be directed to either a licensed physician or to the product's manufacturer.
