FDA Approves Eloxatin (Oxaliplatin) for Treatment of Advanced Colorectal Cancer
Tags:
LOS ANGELES, CA -- January 12, 2004 -- Sanofi-Synthelabo today announced that Eloxatin? (oxaliplatin for injection) received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the first-line treatment of advanced colorectal cancer. The first-line Eloxatin-based regimen, Folfox, demonstrated improved survival and a lower incidence of common chemotherapy-related side effects compared with a standard treatment regimen, IFL.
More news:
- Eloxatin (as part of the FOLFOX4 regimen) also is being studied in combination with the experimental oral angiogenesis inhibitors Avastin (Genentech) and PTK/ZK (Novartis/Schering AG). Oral angiogenesis inhibitors are agents that effectively target the tumor blood vessels, slowing tumor growth and spread.
- Extensive worldwide clinical development program is ongoing to explore the benefit of Eloxatin in other types of cancers, primarily pancreatic and gastric cancer.
