"Telmisartan Superior to Ramipril in Preventing Morning Blood Pressure Rise" By Ed Susman SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- May 19, 2005 -- The sometimes problematic early morning blood pressure surge is better prevented by the angiotensin receptor blocker telmisartan than by the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor ramipril, researchers reported here May 16[th at the 20th Annual Scientific Meeting and Exposition of the American Society of Hypertension. "Using the maximum recommended doses, telmisartan 80 mg significantly reduced the systolic early morning blood pressure surge compared with ramipril 10 mg in the subgroup of patients with the highest surge," said Philippe Gosse, MD, a hypertension specialist at Centre Hospitalier Régional de Bordeaux, France. |
