Summary points:
A 55-year-old Caucasian male was switched to efavirenz, zidovudine and lamivudine in 2003, while on viral suppression in his first-line highly active anti-retroviral treatment regimen. In 2005, the patient interrupted his medications 3 weeks after simplification. Genotyping resistance testing assay is described. The authors discuss the need to rule out the presence of the K103N mutation after even minimal exposure to efavirenz.
