        Summary points:The authors describe the case of a 37-year-old woman who has been treated for mild non-autoimmune haemolytic anaemia for 30 years. Laboratory tests along with personal and family medical history are described and a blood smear image is provided. The authors discuss their diagnosis of hereditary dehydrated stomatocytosis (DHSt), which can be overlooked for many years in patients with a mild presentation, and review what is known about the pathogenesis of this autosomal disorder.
