        Summary points:A 40-year-old Caucasian female presents with diffuse bone pain and proximal muscular weakness, mainly in the lower extremities and to a lesser degree in both shoulders for 6 months. Clinical examination, laboratory tests, dual X-ray absorptiometry scan, and esophagogastruduodenoscopy are described. The authors discuss the challenges of diagnosing celiac disease and treatment strategies.
