        Summary points:A 44-year-old woman is referred for clinical diagnosis and treatment of a mass discernable endoscopically under the intact mucosa of her left false vocal cord. She reports a 2- to 3-year history of hoarseness and dyspnoea on exertion with no complaint of dysphagia. Medical history, physical examination, fiberoptic laryngoscopy, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and histopathological evaluation are described; images provided. The authors describe the 2 different types of neurogenic tumours of the larynx -- Schwannomas and neurofibromas -- and review diagnostic strategies and treatment options.
