      Summary points:The authors report 2 extremely rare cases of differentiated thyroid carcinoma with extended tumour thrombus or mediastinum lymph node metastasis involving the superior vena cava (SVC), causing SVC syndrome. The authors discuss their successful treatment technique of radical resection and reconstruction of the SVC using autologous tissue instead of an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene graft.
