        Summary points:A previously healthy 27-year-old female presenting with abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting undergoes emergent surgery due to an actively bleeding ruptured ovarian cyst. This case report describes the sudden splenic rupture following laparotomy. The authors discuss the incidence of splenic rupture as a complication of Epstein-Barr virus infection and the preferred treatment strategy.
