| Summary points: | A previously healthy 46-year-old presents with 1-week history of worsening headache, fever, and depersonalization that developed suddenly after having spent 2 weeks travelling extensively through the southern United States. This case report describes the clinical history and examination as well as results of blood and urinary cultures, imaging studies, lumbar puncture, treatment, and outcome, and includes some images. The authors review the literature on the presenting features of herpes simplex virus encephalitis. |
