news Failure of Ultrasound to Diagnose a Giant Ovarian Cyst: A Case Report

Presented by:Cases Journal / Themistoklis Mikos, George P Tabakoudis, George Pados, Nikos P Eugenidis and Efstratios Assimakopoulos
Summary points:A 59-year-old Caucasian, multiparous female was hospitalised complaining of dyspnoea and abdominal distension progressing during the last 8 months. She had no significant medical and surgical history. Abdominal computed tomography (CT), abdominal ultrasound, laboratory data, tumour markers, and serial drainage are described; images provided. Six months later she was re-admitted for recurrence of symptoms. Further drainage, new sonographic approach, and new CT are described, and a giant cyst is confirmed. The authors discuss giant ovarian cysts mimicking ascites and review features of ultrasound techniques and CT that indicate giant ovarian cysts.
