        Summary points:A 68-year-old male, whose right leg had been amputated 58 years ago, presents with severe pain in the right hip joint caused by a subcapital fracture of the right femoral neck 6 months prior. A detailed account of bipolar hemiarthroplasty of the right hip joint is described, including post-operative physical therapy; images provided. The authors outline the necessary planning and preparation to achieve satisfactory results in a case of subcapital fracture for an ambulating patient with an above knee amputation.
