        news Fatal Necrotizing Pneumonia Due to a Panton-Valentine Leukocidin Positive Community-Associated Methicillin-Sensitive Staphylococcus Aureus and Influenza Co-Infection: A Case Report

        Summary points:A previously healthy 30-year-old presents with worsening fever and shortness of breath as well as haemoptysis 1 day after being discharged from hospital with a prescription for albuterol and azithromycin for treatment of bronchitis. This case report describes the patient's history, laboratory findings, treatment, and outcome. The authors review the literature on other fatal cases of community-acquired pneumonia due to co-infection with influenza and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus have increasingly been reported in previously healthy individuals.
