        news Anorexia Nervosa: The Physiological Consequences of Starvation and the Need for Primary Prevention Efforts

        Summary points:A 17-year-old is brought in by her parents with symptoms of fatigue, dizziness and syncope, cold hands and feet, constipation, dry skin and hair, and headaches, as well as loss of appetite, weight loss of 11.4 kg over the previous 4 months and a recent uncharacteristic pursuit to exercise. This case report describes the clinical and psychological examinations, and laboratory findings. The authors discuss the physiological consequences of starvation, the management of the patient with anorexia nervosa, and primary prevention strategies.
