      Summary points:In this case report, the authors review the placement of a triple-lumen catheter using ultrasonographic guidance in a 22-year-old African-American male with sickle cell disease. Attempts at peripheral cannulation had failed. The authors discuss the hazards of aberrant line placement, review venous anatomy, and explain when cannulation of the azygos vein is an option.
