        Summary points:A 48-year-old woman with morbid obesity and a body mass index of 43.44 kg/m2 presents requesting referral for bariatric surgery. Medical history includes multiple unsuccessful weight loss attempts, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, poorly controlled hypertension, hypothyroidism, depression, and stress urinary incontinence. Her surgical history is significant for open cholecystectomy 20 years ago. This interactive, case-based lesson will help physicans diagnose nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in obesity, discuss the treatment options for obesity, perform preoperative evaluation for bariatric surgery, and discuss the risks and benefits of bariatric surgery.
