        Summary points:A 56-year-old Japanese man had suffered nausea and generalised fatigue for 2 days before presenting to the hospital in a confused state. Physical examination, medical history, laboratory data, endocrine data, and viral antibody titers are described. The authors discuss the first case of fulminant type 1 diabetes associated with significant elevation of mumps titers.
