| Summary points: | This case report describes 2 severely obese patients -- a 64-year-old female and a 42-year-old female -- who present with oedema and progressive weight gain. Medical history, physical examination, electrocardiogram, chest radiograph, transthoracic echocardiography, treatment, and outcome are described for each case. The authors discuss fluid retention in the presence of morbid obesity and review the differences between "traditional" heart failure and heart failure in severe obesity. |
