Marked Aortic Valve Stenosis Progression After Receiving Long-Term Aggressive Cholesterol-Lowering Therapy Using Low-Density Lipoprotein Apheresis in a Patient With Familial Hypercholesterolemia
This report describes the 23-year medical history of a woman diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolaemia at age 49 years, culminating with aortic valve replacement surgery at age 72. Images are provided. The authors discuss the importance of careful monitoring for stenotic changes of the aortic valve despite optimal cholesterol-lowering therapy for the secondary prevention of coronary artery disease.
