        news Acute Allergic Reaction due to Milk Proteins Contaminating Lactose Added to Corticosteroid for Injection

        Summary points:In this 2-patient case study, an 8-year-old female and a 3-year-old male present with an asthma attack and urticaria in the neck, respectively. Both receive an injection of methylprednisolone sodium succinate for injection 40 mg, and immediately suffer a rapid spread of urticaria over their bodies. Laboratory tests and skin prick tests are described. The authors discuss the risks involved with administering drugs intravenously to patients with severe cow's milk allergy.
