| Summary points: | A 60-year-old man with a history of alcohol and cocaine abuse, type 2 diabetes, hypercholesterolaemia, reflux oesophagitis, and depression and taking an extensive list of medications, presents with a 2-month history of fatigue and lethargy. He reported a proliferation of bedbugs in his apartment beginning about 2 months before presentation. Physical examination, laboratory data, treatment, and re-hospitalisations due to low haemoglobin levels are described. The authors demonstrate that bedbug bites should be considered a possible cause of chronic blood loss and iron-deficiency anaemia in people who have signs of bedbug infestation. |
