FDA Gives Nod to New Diabetes Combination Tablet: Repaglinide + Metformin
NEW YORK -- June 24, 2008 -- The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a replaglinide and metformin fixed-dose combination tablet (PrandiMet) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
The replaglinide and metformin fixed-dose combination tablet has been approved as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes who are already treated with a meglitinide and metformin or who have inadequate glycaemic control on a meglitinide alone or metformin alone.
The new agent works to control 3 abnormalities of type 2 diabetes: impaired insulin secretion, insulin resistance, and excessive hepatic glucose production.
